Maupin Positive comeback
To the editor:
The Oregon wilderness is a contrast of unimaginable beauty and danger. The animals that inhabit this land are valuable, and amazing, creating a prosperous ecosystem. An important part of that ecosystem is appearing again in the landscape of Oregon.
Wolves are making a positive comeback after being on the brink of extinction. With the cooperation of cattle owners and conservationists counted wolf numbers have grown by nearly a dozen since 2012, from 29 to 46. And with the growth in population, a very small number of cattle were killed. About four cattle killed by wolves compared to nearly 50,000 cattle killed by other causes. Wolves balance out the ecosystem, and are a keystone to a healthy Oregon.
