Cady, Fischer pick up TDCC Kickoff golf title

Only four strokes made the difference between first through fifth place in the low net category of this past weekend’s The Dalles Country Club 2013 men’s Spring Kickoff Tournament.

When the final scores were tabulated, Chris Cady and Gary Fischer stood alone on top with a 121 net tally for championship honors.

The teams of Bruce Harris and Gary Briggs and Charlie and Doug Austin ended up in a second-place deadlock with each sporting a 123.

Craig and Carl Compton and Don Slusher and Doug Bansch swung out to net markers of 124 each, and the duo of Chris Swanson and Mike Rinaudo finished up in fifth place with a final roundup of 125.

Things were a little more spread out on the low gross classification, as the team of Ron Krol and Dale Griffiths matched shots for a 147 and the top low effort of the pack.

The Dalles Wahtonka coach Dan Telles and Bill Maske put in some solid work on the greens for a gross score of 149 for the second-best gross score.

Pete Kelly and Kenny Walker added a 151 for third place, and there was a tie for fourth between a pair of up-and-coming combinations.

Mike Jesch and Austin Justesen walked off the links at 152 and they wrote in a score tie up with Dave Link and Bob Fimple.

Jesch and Justesen came through in the Sunday Honey Pot division by taking top honors with a gross score of 74, which was good enough for a tie with Krol and Griffiths.

Rich Hess and Tom Biddle ended up one stroke better in the low net class, ahead of a three-way tie for second.

Cady and Fischer, Slusher and Bansch and Swanson and Rinaudo all etched their names to a 60 on the scorecards.

There was also a special event tournament, with some top totals.

Cady and Fischer kicked it into high gear for first place with a 121, two shots in front of a trio of teams that wound up evened up at 123.

Briggs and Harris, Krol and Griffiths, and Doug and Charlie Austin did solid work on their short games and wrote in 123 tallies to their cards.

Craig and Carl Compton along with Slusher and Bansch each had a 124 ending to their runs, and the tandem of Swanson and Rinaudo slugged out a 125 for seventh in the special event.
