April saw normal weather, NOAA reports

Temperatures at The Dalles airport averaged near normal during April, according to preliminary data from NOAA’s National Weather Service in Pendleton.

The average temperature was 53.1 degrees, 0.2 degrees below normal. High temperatures averaged 64.6 degrees, 0.5 degrees below normal. The highest was 85 degrees April 26. Low temperatures averaged 41.6 degrees, which was normal. The lowest was 28 degrees April 23.

Three days saw low temperature below 32 degrees.

Precipitation totaled 0.47 inches during April, 0.27 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation — at least .01 inch — was received on five days with the heaviest, 0.20 inches reported April 7.

Precipitation this year has reached 2.07 inches, which is 3.80 inches below normal. Since October, the water year precipitation at The Dalles airport has been 8.13 inches, 3.27 inches below normal.

The highest wind gust was 47 mph April 10.

The outlook for May from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center is for above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation. Normal highs for The Dalles airport rise from 69.0 degrees at the start of May to 77.0 degrees at the end of May. Normal lows rise from 45.0 degrees to 51.0 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 0.56 inches.
