Letter to the Editor: Nelson for schools

— Nelson for schools

To the editor:

This letter is in support of John Nelson as Candidate for District 21 School Board, Zone 4. I have had the pleasure of working on the Start Making a Reader Today (SMART) Chapter with John for three years. As a retired elementary school teacher, he is a strong proponent of fostering opportunity and advancement for students. In the 3 years I have worked with him, he has volunteered hundreds of hours contacting donors for our annual A Taste for Literacy event, recruiting potential volunteers and reading to students. He is collaborative, kind, inventive, hardworking and has a passion for helping children. Without his dedication, our Chapter would not a success. He has a proven history of public service, leadership and board participation. He has donated time as a Planning Commissioner & Chairman (Veneta, Oregon), as a Planning Commissioner, volunteer for the Urban Renewal Advisory Board, as a Traffic Safety Commission Chairman, volunteer for Gorge Literacy and board member for The Dalles Watershed Council. He is a retired school teacher with 24 years of experience. I believe that he has the necessary background and experience to support educational excellence in our schools. Please vote for John Nelson, District 21 School Board, Zone 4.
