A spot of tea and fashion fun

Vintage aprons and a fashion show featuring the spring collection from The Dalles’ own fashion house, Lines of Designs, will headline the Compassion Tea for Relay for Life this Saturday, May 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the United Church of Christ Congregational.

ANZAC Tea Parlour will provide the tea and treats.

The aprons come from private collections, many from that of Doreen Koch, one of the Forever Endeavor Angels who organize the fundraising event.

“Some of the vintage aprons will be for sale,” Koch said. Cannon Packer will also have aprons on display and Quilter’s Delight will feature a quilt with aprons on it.

A variety of fundraising activities are planned during the tea. Drawings for prizes are also part of the fun.

Prizes include a glass sculpture by Andy Nichols, a lavender basket, a gourmet chocolate basket, among others, and the pots of garden annuals that will decorate the tables. A prize will also be given for the best hat, although hats are not required.

“it’s always a lot of fun,” Koch said. “Everybody is laughing. I used to have entertainment, but I quit doing that because nobody shuts up long enough to listen to the people.”

Tickets are $25, available at Klindt’s Booksellers or by calling Koch at 541-298-1602. Relay for Life is set for June 22-23 in The Dalles and raises money for cancer research.
