Cold and rain sets records

PORTLAND, (AP) — The cold and rain that settled over northwestern Oregon on Thursday set records.

The Oregonian reported that 1.19 inches of rain was recorded at Portland International Airport. That set a record for the date and marked the rainiest day since a big fall storm in November.

Similar readings set records for the date from Hood River in the Columbia Gorge to Newport on the coast. Forecasters said the rain would relent over the Memorial Day weekend, with cloudy conditions and highs in the mid-60s.
