Burgerville is holding a fundraiser on Monday, Nov. 18 to support the fight against Lou Gehrig’s Disease, in honor of MariAnne Sansour, a local resident living with the disease.
Burgerville will donate 10 percent of all proceeds from sales between 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to the ALS Association.
Lou Gehrig’s Disease, or ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), is a disease that attacks the motor neurons in the brain and spinal chord. When the motor neurons die, the muscles waste away. Gradually, a person is robbed of the ability to walk, speak, eat and, eventually, breathe. The only function that is spared is cognitive function.
Sansour, who is now in a wheelchair, has vowed to live her life as fully as possible and keeps a positive outlook.
