Letter to the Editor: Taxed or not?

— To the editor:

Please enlighten me. All home owners in Wasco County will be taxed for the $3.7 million bond measure to create a new swimming pool. Is this not so?

However as a rural Wasco County resident I did not receive a ballot that would have allowed me to vote on this issue. I'm not expressing an opinion on the merits of a new pool. I'm not sure how I would have voted.

But if I'm going to be taxed for this new pool, I would at least liked to have voted on the measure. Taxation without representation is what this country went to war for many years ago. Could you explain please? Thank you.

The Dalles

Editor’s note: Only voters within the Northern Wasco County Parks and Recreation District will pay taxes related to the $3.7 million swimming pool bond — they are the ones who were eligible to vote on the subject. At present, the district encompasses only the portion of The Dalles that was within the city limits at the time the district was carved away from city government.
