BARLOW BAZAAR: Barlow Gate Grange hosts its annual Christmas bazaar Saturday, Nov. 30, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the grange hall in Wamic. The event will include 25 vendors. Breakfast and lunch will be served.
BOOK TALK: Local author Richard McBee presents a book talk about his recent historical non-fiction biographical work “Rough Enough.” Presentation will be in the library meeting room of The Dalles/Wasco County library Saturday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m.
COMMUNITY CONCERT: Choral rehearsals will be Sundays: Dec. 1, Dec. 8, and Dec. 15, at 6 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1815 E. 15th St., The Dalles, with a run-through on Saturday, Dec. 21, 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Peter’s Landmark. Community members are invited to participate. Participation in a minimum of one choral rehearsal and the run-through Dec. 21, is requested. ELFF DRIVE: The 28th annual ELFF (Everyone Loves a Fire Fighter) canned food drive will be rolling through The Dalles and Dallesport the first week of December.
Eastside The Dalles collections will be Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. Westside The Dalles collections will be Wednesday, Dec. 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. Dallesport collections will be Thursday, Dec. 5, from 6 to 9 p.m.
The event is sponsored by Mid-Columbia fire and Rescue Volunteer Association, the Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul.
HOLIDAY BAZAAR: Dallesport, Murdock Community Counsel and Volunteer Fire Departments 10th annual Holiday Bazaar will be Dec. 6 and 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Columbia Hills Log Building on Highway 197. Table rent is $10 a day. Money from table rental and food sales go towards the Children’s Christmas party and Fire Department.
TREE SALE: The sophomore class at Sherman Junior-Senior High School is once again hosting the annual Christmas tree sale fundraiser. The Christmas tree sale will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday Dec. 7 by the ag shop and greenhouse. The sophomores will be selling trees ranging in size from 4 feet tall to 9 feet tall, in varieties of noble, Douglas and grand firs. The sophomore class will also be selling swags and wreaths.
The sale will continue the following week (Dec. 9-13) after school from 4 to 6 p.m.
HOLIDAY HISTORY: Three historic preservation groups are sponsoring a Historical Christmas Open House Saturday, Dec. 7, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Original Wasco County Courthouse, 410 W. 2nd Place, The Dalles. The event features Santa (bring kids and cameras!), refreshments, live music, and holiday gifts including books, DVDs and stocking stuffers. CHOIR REHEARSALS: The Cascade Singers will prepare works this fall by two great composers whose 200th birthdays are celebrated in 2013: Ciuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner. “Verdi, Wagner, et al” is the theme for the community choir’s holiday concert Dec. 7 and 8.
Singers meet under the direction of Lloyd Walworth Mondays form 7 to 9 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 10th and Union streets, in The Dalles. A one-hour work session takes place Thursdays at 7 p.m. Rehearsals are open to all interested singers, who will then audition with the director. The choir often appears at community events with formal concerts at Christmas, St. Patrick’s Day and late spring.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT: “Verdi, Wagner & Holiday Favorites” is the title of the Cascade Singers’ 2013 Christmas concert. Performances are Saturday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 10th and Union Streets, The Dalles.

GIFT CLASS: Art teacher and Master Recycler Cynthia Caudill will teach a class on how to use recycled art to make Christmas gifts for ages 5 and older on Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Each child will have the opportunity to make two gifts, a lavender doll ornament and a pocket notebook.

BOOK DRIVE: The Citizen Review Board in Wasco County is holding a book drive from Nov. 23 through Dec. 15. The books will be donated to children in foster care in Wasco, Sherman, Gilliam, and Wheeler Counties. Books of all reading levels are appreciated. The goal this year is to collect 200 books for 200 children.

CHRISTMAS MATINEE: The Mid-Columbia Senior Center is selling tickets to see the Singing Christmas Tree in Portland for the 2 p.m. matinee performance on Sunday Dec. 1. COATS NEEDED: As local temperatures have dropped, many school children in the North Wasco County School District are without winter coats to keep them warm. A coat drive is under way to collect as many coats as possible for school children of all ages.

VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT: The Dalles HOPE Warming Place located in the St. Vincent de Paul ministry building at 315 W. Third Place, needs volunteers to join teams staffing the overnight accommodations for the homeless.
The TD HOPE Warming Place is schedule to open on cold nights beginning Nov. 17. Volunteers receive training and are asked to volunteer for one night of the week as needed.
