Letter to the Editor: OBOB seeks help

— OBOB seeks help

To the editor:

Dear members of our community,

Oregon Battle of the Books has been encouraging children to read in the Mid-Columbia since 2007. It is a literacy initiative from the Oregon Association of School Libraries.

I am seeking individuals who would be willing to give of their time one evening and one Saturday to aid OBOB and the students of Wasco, Sherman, and Hood River counties. These dates are Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 5 to 7 p.m., and Saturday, March 15, both of which are at The Dalles Middle School at 1100 E. 12th Street.

A volunteer does not need to have read any of the books. A volunteer needs to be a good, objective listener and a capable oral reader (of questions for the competing OBOBers). We need moderators to run battles effectively so everyone has a positive experience.

I am happy to come speak to any group or to meet with interested individuals at their convenience. OBOB is a very rewarding way to connect to your local schools.
