Fall recreation program guide available

Northern Wasco County Parks and Recreation District’s fall program guide is available now, offering all the latest programs and scheduled events.

The publication includes not only the district’s programs, but events provided by recreation partners, too.

Among the activities planned this fall are:

Geocaching 101: In the gorge alone, thousands of geocaches are waiting to be discovered. Kids of all ages will learn to use GPS units, geocaching etiquette and the rules of the game. Geocaching is one way to connect with nature and learn about the area. The class will be Friday, Oct. 11 (a School District 21 no-school day) from 10 a.m. to noon at Thompson Park.

Carv’ Me Crazy Pumpkin Walk: Enjoy a nice walk along the Sorosis Park Trail while viewing and judging competing carved pumpkins. Kids’ pumpkin painting by the fireplace and some festive carved creations are planned. Those who want to enter the contest can do so in three categories: scariest, funniest and best artistic work. T-shirts will be awarded to first, second and third place in each category. All contestants must have their pumpkin carved and at the event no later than 6 p.m. The event is Saturday, Oct. 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Sorosis Park Shelter.
