The Dalles celebrates river connection

The Dalles reconnects to the river

The Dalles looks to Reconnect to the River Saturday with the return of the annual festival celebrating the city’s revived link to its river roots.

“We just want to make it a fun event,” said Lisa Farquharson, CEO of The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce.

Reconnect to the River began last year as a community celebration following completion of the Union Street dock. The event runs Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Live entertainment will include Native American dancers, among others. Gino Michaels and Soul City will perform from 4:30 to 7 p.m. A bouncy castle, apple bobbing, face painting and other kids activites are planned.

The event will also feature “History Lane,” as it did last year with re-enactors and exhibits about local history. Arts and crafts, local food, a hospitality garden and other features are planned.

The Wasco County Food Bank will be featured at the event and visitors are asked to bring a canned food donation to their booth.
