Redsides too much for Arlington

One of the biggest lessons learned Tuesday by the South Wasco County Redsides was to bring their top game to the forefront no matter the competition.

The Redsides reeled off their sixth sweep of the 2013 campaign and won their sixth non-tournament match in the last seven overall after three-game domination of Arlington in Big Sky volleyball play in Maupin.

“We did not play as well tonight as we had been playing,” said SWC head coach Ron Townsend. “We had a number of errors and lapses in play, but were still able to come out with the victory.”

In the opening game, both teams fought to a standstill, but as the game wore on, the Redsides got things going before posting a 25-22 winner.

After that, slower beginning, SWC began to hit on all cylinders with scores of 25-8 and 25-13 bringing in the sweep outcome.

Once again, all-league players Zoe Morelli and Katherine Popchock made significant contributions with a combined nine kills and two aces, but added to that was the steady performance of Joy Kelly, who had nine kills and served at a 5 for 6 clip.

Kelsie Olson added five aces, Sonya Schmitz had four digs, Roxanne O’Neal chipped in four kills and four aces, and Molly Foreaker dished up 23 assists.

SWC heads to Dufur for a Big Sky West Division match between two undefeated league teams at 5 p.m. Friday.
