The Dalles man dies on train tracks

Man killed on train tracks

Police have identified a 37-year-old man killed on the train tracks in The Dalles late the evening of Oct. 4.

The next of kin have been notified of J. Randall Jones, who has no known address but has lived in The Dalles area for at least the past 18 years, said Chief Jay Waterbury of The Dalles Police Department.

“It appears he probably fell into the train,” Waterbury said.

The first call on the matter came in around 11 p.m., and reported a body near the Webber Street train crossing, but officers could not find anything near that location. A call from the train crew came in at 1:23 a.m. and reported the body on the rails north of Interstate 84’s Second Street overpass.

Jones was reported dead at the scene.
