Hydrant flush underway

The Dalles public works will be flushing hydrants over the next few weeks, starting at the top of the system and working down. Flushing helps clear deposits, helps minimize water quality problems, tests fire protection pressures, exercises hydrant valves and identifies hydrants needing repair or replacement.

Motorists and pedestrians should avoid water coming directly from the hydrant, or, if unavoidable, proceed with caution. Occasionally flushing causes discoloration or cloudiness, which is usually cleared by letting the faucet run several minutes. If it does not resolve the issue, call 541-296-5401, ext. 2001.
