Letter to the Editor: Blessed with coal

— To the editor:

Many people are writing complaining about coal being shipped through the gorge and how it will harm the soil and water. I don’t believe God would have put anything on this earth that would do harm to our earth.

On a TV program, I have seen people mining for coal on the beaches of the Bering Sea. When I was a child, the coal got dumped near our house and we shoveled it into buckets to burn in our stove. Our school had a coal chute.

If we are so concerned about our country and environment, why don’t I see the same amount of letters concerning our national debt and how much in debt our state is. If things continue as it is now, maybe we will have to revert to burning coal and feel very blessed we have such a large supply.
