The Dalles To the editor:
I have lived in The Dalles for many years, and all of that time I have believed that we had a leash law within the city.
Apparently I was wrong, as an increasing number of people go walking by my house with their dogs completely unleashed, and certainly not under control.
I also have a dog, a small rescue dog who is very protective of me and our home, and thinks he is a big dog, which he is not. He is never outside our home without a leash or chain, and only goes out to do his business in the yard, which I then clean up. His chain is short enough that he cannot reach the sidewalk and interfere with anyone walking by.
When someone with an unleashed dog goes by, and their dog gallops over to visit, it scares my dog to the point that he shakes for hours. My dog has separation anxiety, and does not like men (probably was abused by a man before he came to live with me), so this creates an unhappy environment for both of us.
Please keep your dog leashed, according to the law, or I will be forced to call for law enforcement assistance. Thank you.
