Nothing was going to stop the runaway freight train of Dick Wingfield and Mike Pierce.
The duo claimed top honors with a combined tally of 151 and on Sunday, they wound up tied for first place in the Honey Pot round at The Dalles Country Club Men’s Fall Wind Up.
Of the top-7 in the Saturday standings, Wingfield and Pierce were challenged most by Jim Nordquist and Pete Barber (149), who fell two strokes shy of first place.
Ron Krol and Fred Stampflee notched a 147 for third place, Dan Keizur and Scott Bailey garnered a 144 for fourth place.
The tandem of Jerry Christensen and Rich Miller and Dan Telles and Tom Krueger combined for a 142 to end up in a fifth-place deadlock, and the team of Tony Teuscher and Jim Schultz had a 140 for seventh in the books.
This tournament was scored using the Stableford system with one point for a bogey, two points awarded for a par and three for a birdie.
The team with the highest point total was deemed the winner.
In Sunday’s Honey Pot round, Keizur and Bailey matched Wingfield and Pierce for top recognition at 75, and the two teams led by Telles and Krueger and Krol and Stampflee each carded 74s to end up tied for third.
