Letter to the Editor: Watch for bikes

— To the editor:

I ride my bike almost every day and at least once a day I almost get hit because drivers don’t pay attention to people on bicycles.

They either don’t stop at stop signs or they pull out right in front of you and there isn’t always enough time to stop.

The biggest thing is driving down a bike lane. The other day I was in the bike lane and a truck was driving down the bike lane towards me. He was going the wrong way down the bike lane. There was traffic on the road so I couldn’t go around him and there was a curb on my other side. There was nowhere for me to go. I had to stop suddenly and quickly get over the curb to keep from getting hit. It really upset me when this driver then got mad at me for being in his way.

I enjoy riding my bicycle and want to do so without the fear of being hit by a driver who isn’t pay attention.

Please just beware of people on bicycles and remember that like a car we can’t always stop on a dime if you pull out in front of us. Or there may not be anywhere for us to move to if you are driving down the bike lane.
