Local gymnasts showered the hometown crowd with a rain of hardware on Oct. 12.
Riverside Gymnastics Academy hosted more than 190 athletes from around the state drawing some stiff competition from larger clubs in the Portland area.
“The Kids looked like they were on their home turf,” said coach Sara Smith. “They looked more comfortable.”
“It was amazing,” said 12-year-old Krissy Carter. “Everything”
Carter helped her Level 3 team take the first-place trophy with an all-around first place score of 37.875.
She was not alone.
Jacy Johnston, 8, of Hood River, also went first all around with a 36.8.
“I was feeling good after my beam score,” Johnston said, noting her favorite part of her floor routine is the round-off backhand spring.
Karla Hernandez and Gabbe Haskins also helped pull off the first-place team score, with second-place all around scores.
Hernandez scored out at 36.9 and Haskins was right behind with a 36.575.
In addition, level three athletes Zoe LeBreton, Regina Sanchez Macias, Karla Hernandez, Margo Mayo and Ahnikah Rubio all took first-place medals for individual events.
Level 4 gymnasts also made a hometown stand, taking the second-place team trophy.
“I was proud of my beam routine,” said 10-year-old Emily Adams. “I stuck my cartwheel.”
Adams went first all-around with a 36.2, and Alexa Baldy remained on a tear with another first all around with a 37.15
Halle Haskins contributed with a first place vault that brought 9.4. Meara Crawford knocked out a 9.2 on bars and Poppy Miller an 8.9 in the same event.
Sofia Blair also contributed with a 9 on floor and a 9.1 on beam.
On level 5 vault, McKenna Bailey took second with a 9.2; Celia Peterson took third with an 8.85.
