The Dalles Undecided
To the editor:
I am undecided on how we will vote on this year’s pool measure. This town needs a new pool in the worst way, but my concern is that this will not be a year-round pool. This town needs to have something that will bring money and families to this town. We travel to Portland near my mother-in-law’s house and use that aquatic center and it’s so wonderful with three waterslides and four different pools. If you live within her zip code, near her house, you get a discount rate, otherwise we pay full price that brings so much revenue to her area and it has paid for itself. Over the years, they are always busy.
The trouble with this pool is it will only be open for three months a year. Why are we trying to pass a bond? I know we desperately need a new pool, but you are doing it wrong. We need to try again and pass the big one again.
Give the people from this zip code a break on a year-round pass, like they do in Portland.
I voted yes on the first bond that failed, but no on the last one. I am more than willing to pay $100 extra on my property taxes for my house, plus my rentals, to have a nice facility to use.
This town has nothing for kids to do in the wintertime. Summer had a pool, not very good, but we had one, so I am not sure how I will vote — probably no because it’s not what I want and I have kids who also need a pool.
