TDW hoping for Friday win over Hood River.
Fireworks have been a new addition this year to The Dalles Wahtonka varsity football games thanks to the Friends of Football nonprofit group, and senior night this week is expected to have more bang for the buck.
“We’ve been purchasing the fireworks and working with the National Guard to set them off,” said Eric Nerdin of Friends of Football. The displays have generated some complaints from surprised nearby residents, so Nerdin wanted to let the public know that that they will be a bit bigger this week, so residents can be aware and take any necessary measures, like keeping pets indoors.
The Friends have received the appropriate permits and from local police and fire agencies, and the state fire marshal’s office.
Multi-shot displays are set off when the team comes out at 7 p.m. and again at halftime. Single-shot displays are set off when TDW scores.
The displays will run until around 10 p.m. Friday.
Fireworks may also be in order next Friday, Nov. 1, if the Eagle Indians win against Hood River tonight and earn a home play-in game.
