Letter to the Editor: Schools before pools

— To the editor:

To vote for or against this latest pool bond should be easy. What makes a community great? Quality public schools. Talk with teachers and students then inspect Chenowith and The Dalles Wahtonka, you’ll see where new tax dollars need to go. Check out the low rating of TD schools with the State of Oregonand see where our tax dollars need to go.

Ask why so many new employees who work in TD live in Hood River? Is it May Street Aquatic Center or Hood River Schools?

Tennison Engineers 2008 report said “Remediation is available to fix JP Pool.” Parks and Rec Board, Scott Green and a select group of people said “NO” let the public build us a new facility. First they wanted 18 mil, then 10 mil and now 5 mil. This pool could be built for 2 mil. As a business owner and taxpayer this bond will cause more layoffs and further burden to TD. The only vote is a no vote.
