The Dalles Dismayed
To the editor:
I was dismayed to read the article in Thursday’s Chronicle, “Faculty Votes No Confidence in Toda.”
Contrary to the tone of Mr. Schell’s comments, Dr. Toda has responsibility for the entire college, not just a portion of the faculty. It’s his show and he has to decide how it will be administered. He works at the pleasure of the board and answers to the board.
Mr. Schell and Mr. Ropek took their opinions and feelings to the board, and when the board did not do their liking, they sent an anonymous letter to the papers. Add to this the snarky asides — “…has nothing to do with his [Toda’s] raise … nor with the promotion of his friend…” — and it is clear that like petulant children they didn’t get their way and so they’ll get a trial under way in the papers.
Dr. Toda has done an amazing job in elevating our college, achieving accreditation and bringing in new programs. I fully support him and I gather the board does also. If you don’t like the way the college is run, then you should go to the board and ultimately to the ballot box.
