Maupin Coming off a solid performance at the Ranger Volleyball Tournament, the South Wasco County Redsides used that momentum to pull out a dramatic five-game win over Trinity Lutheran Thursday in a non-league tussle in Maupin.
Early on, it appeared as though SWC would dominate play, taking the first two sets by scores of 26-24 and 25-23.
With thunder and lightning wreaking havoc on things, play was delayed twice due to power outages, the longest being 35 minutes.
The breaks seemed to get Trinity back in a groove. Trinity then battled back to take Game 3 by a 25-14 margin, before sending the match into a fifth set with a 26-24 win in Game 4.
Although they had been tested, the Redsides did not lose grip on the task at hand and secured a win after a 15-9 run in the finale.
“It was nice to see the girls battle to get the win,” said SWC head coach Ron Townsend.
“We also worked on some different combinations, which hurt our momentum at times, but the girls worked hard.”
SWC (1-0 overall) plays tonight at home versus Lyle-Wishram with a start time set for 5 p.m.
