Ranger netters sweep Stanfield

Serving is key to big win

— The Dufur Rangers slammed down 17 aces and seven different players notched kills in their three-game sweep over Stanfield Thursday in non-league volleyball play in Dufur.

From the moment they got off the bus, the Lady Rangers took control of matters working a lopsided 25-10 winner.

In the second game, Dufur’s dominance continued, as they had a close set, but hit on all ends late to pull off a 25-16 decision to go up 2-0.

With one game to grab the sweep, Dufur put the final blow on the Tigers by a 25-14 margin.

From the service stripe, the Rangers hit on a 67 for 74 clip for 90.5 percent with 17 aces.

Kyla Johnson had seven assists, four aces and two digs, and Alexa Macias added six more assists, two aces and three digs.

Teneille McDonald and Kathryn Johnson led the charge with six kills apiece, and Taylor Darden picked up four kills and four aces.

Montana Ferres doled out four aces, three kills and four digs.

“(It was a) great match tonight against Stanfield,” said Dufur head coach Kelly Darden. “Kathryn Johnson had some great kills tonight with the assists coming from her sister, Kyla. We had some great serving from our players, one of the areas that we’ve been focusing on this week in practice.”

Dufur played Perrydale and Damascus Christian in a three-way dual starting at 3 p.m. today
