Christian Garcia ran his goal-scoring streak to four games and The Dalles Wahtonka Eagle Indians picked up their first win of the season with a 5-0 shutout triumph over St. Helens Thursday in non-league boy’s soccer play.
After scoring five goals in their first three matchups, the tribe busted loose in a major way with this outburst, using three first-half goals to set the trend.
Garcia hit his mark in the opening half and Aldo Rivas and Angel Esiquio supported him with tallies of their own to give TDW a 3-0 halftime cushion.
In the second half, Rivas netted his second goal of the game, and then Leo Hernandez capped the scoring late in the match with a marker to make it 5-0.
The defense held strong to keep St. Helens at bay, and goalkeeper Bryan Sanchez managed just three saves for the shutout.
Thursday’s outcome was the perfect performance for a snake bitten Eagle Indian squad that had hit a crossroad in the season.
Garcia hopes this is just the start to something promising.
“We played with a lot more composure and we didn’t get rattled when pressured and just had some fun,” the senior said. “And yeah, I think this is going to boost our confidence as a team to do bigger and better things.”
