Letters to the editor: Street veto

To the editor:

I use Kelly Avenue daily. I am aware that there is occasional congestion between 10th and 12th on Kelly, but certainly not enough to warrant the elaborate curbing project the city public works just completed.

The same number of cars will pass through that area. The same number of school children will still cross Kelly single file. And the same number of people will jaywalk across Kelly to shop at the grocery store. The only thing that has changed is the amount of money available to seal cracks, patch holes and sealcoat streets.

Yes, that’s right, that project was paid for with maintenance money.

This is only part of the reason the city wants more for maintenance, but these projects are not maintenance and I will not support any form of levy or tax for street maintenance until these kinds of projects are funded by some other means.

If you agree with me, please contact your city council representative and let them know how you feel.
