Wasco hosts fishing event

— The seventh annual Wasco Salmon/Steelhead Tournament will be Saturday, Sept. 28, with men, women and youth registering at Heritage Landing at the mouth of the Deschutes River between 5 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.

The fee is $20 for adults 18 and older, $5 for kids 17 and younger.

The registration fee includes hamburger/hot dog lunch, which is served in Wasco at the Railroad Depot.

Contestants must have all the required licenses and tags, a river pass is available at the registration site. No fishing will be allowed in the Deschutes River, only in the Columbia River.

Weigh in is from noon to 3 p.m. and all trophies and prizes will be awarded at 3 p.m. in Wasco at the historic RR Depot (follow the signs to Wasco). Trophies, rods and reels will be given all first-place winners, and trophy and prize for second-place winners, plus the popular “I, also, fished” (but didn’t catch anything) and silent auction.

Grand prize is an original glass fish hand crafted by Andy Nichols of Nichols Art Glass in The Dalles.

The public is invited to watch the weigh-in in Wasco, purchase food and participate in the silent auction.
