Two security cameras were reported stolen earlier this week from two businesses on the west end of town, in the 1300 block and 2100 block of West Sixth Street
Both businesses reported the thefts Wednesday. One reported the theft occurred Sunday and the other reported the theft occurred Monday.
The Dalles Police Chief Jay Waterbury said both thefts are still under investigation.
“We still have some clues we’re following up on, on at least one of them,” he said.
He said it was ironic to have a security device stolen. “We don’t have this happen very often. We have had not necessarily thefts of cameras before, but we’ve had thefts of units containing the recordings.”
One of the cameras was valued at $400 and the other was valued at $200.
Both businesses were able to say precisely what time the cameras were stolen, apparently because they recorded their own theft.
