Health deadline longer for survivors

The health care insurance open enrollment deadline in Oregon was extended through April 30; however survivors of domestic violence who are also married have until May 31 to sign up, according to information from the Depart of Health and Human Services.

The extension is in response to the unique difficulties survivors of domestic violence face when attempting to file taxes (

This means survivors of domestic violence may file taxes separately and still be eligible to recieve the tax credit to help pay for their premiums under the ACA, or to apply for the hardship exemption. The abusive partner might also still hold control of records.
