Church news in brief from April 4

Gateway Presbyterian

Palm Sunday services this Sunday are at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Following the second service there will be a dessert reception to welcome the new senior pastor, Dr. Thomas Pipkin.

Sunrise Service

Easter Sunrise Service at Pulpit Rock will be at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, April 20, and feature speaker Fred Sheldon, pastor at the Life Line Baptist Church.

Last Days of Jesus

The annual Last Days of Jesus pageant starts 7 p.m. Maundy Thursday, April 17, at The Dalles High School auditorium with “The Last Supper” scene, followed down the hill at The Dalles City Park with the “Garden of Gethsemane” scene.

The pageant continues at 8 p.m. on Good Friday, April 18, on the Wasco County Courthouse steps with the “Trial of Jesus” scene followed up the hill at the upper The Dalles-Wasco County Library lot with “The Crucifixion” scene and then at First Christian Church south parking lot for the “Burial at the Tomb” scene.

Guards will watch over the tomb until Sunday morning, April 20, when the pageant ends with the final scene, “The Resurrection,“ at 8 a.m.

Fellowship Forum

The Mid-Columbia Fellowship of Churches monthly forum for April will feature “Leaving a Legacy,” a panel of speakers who will invite participants to consider leaving a part of the estate to their faith community or other charitable group, and provide a form to help facilitate the process.

Participants will be given an opportunity to share personal experiences and ask questions.

The event will be Tuesday, April 22, at the First United Methodist Church, 305 E. 11th St. A light snack and coffee will be provided.

Dufur Christian Church

Bonnie Leon, author of 19 novels, including her bestselling “Journey of Eleven Moons,” will be the speaker for the Women’s Spring Event, April 5, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Dufur Christian Church. St. Paul’s Episcopal

This Lent, St. Paul’s is focusing on Forgiveness. The church will host Wednesday night Soup Suppers at 6 p.m., read together a short story about forgiving, and end with evening prayer.

All are welcome to attend.

First Christian Church

First Christian Church invites everyone to attend one of its three weekend worship services. Friday at 7 p.m. is a potluck and message in the basement. Saturday night worship and praise music begins at 6 p.m., followed with God’s Word being shared until 7:30 p.m. On Sunday Bible Study classes for adults are at 9:15 a.m. and worship starts at 10:30. Wednesday evenings two different kids groups meet. This weekend, April 4 - 6, is Summit to Summit Retreat at the beautiful Young Life Facility and Family Ranch in the old Big Muddy oasis out of Antelope. Many of the men of First Christian Church and other churches from all over the Mid-Columbia will be attending this annual time together.

Bethany Lutheran

A garage and consignment sale, plus a bake sale and lunch, to benefit Columbia Lutheran School at Bethany Lutheran Church will take place April 5 and April 12, with more stuff coming for the second week! Furniture, small appliances, decor, household items, clothing, tools. There will be four rooms full, plus an outdoor tool trailer. A BlueBird Wanderlodge diesel motor home will be for sale. Located at Bethany Lutheran Church, 12th and Thompson streets, The Dalles.
