Boys golf shaves 40 strokes from opener

From the opening tournament on March 21 in The Dalles Invitational, The Dalles boy’s golf team shaved 40 strokes off its total with a final tally of 340 to pick up fourth place at the 10-team Wildhorse Invite on Monday at Wildhorse Resort and Casino golf course.

Bailey Ortega (85) and Nick Glesener (88) cut down 11 shots apiece, and Coby Conlee (82) had an eight-stroke improvement.

Chase Snodgrass ended his 18-hole round with a team-low 85, and Mark Felderman, who had a 104 just 24 days ago, came through for a 94.

With those marks put forth, the Eagle Indians finished 33 shots behind tournament winner Richland, Wash. (297).

Pendleton ended up second with a 315, and Hanford, Wash. tallied a 317 for third place in the standings.

Hermiston (342), Mac-Hi (345), Baker City (348), Walla Walla, Wash. (350), La Grande (385) and Hood River Valley (427) rounded out the scores.

Hanford’s Thomas Hanniv claimed medalist recognition with an impressive effort at an even-par 72.

The quartet of Lar Underwood (Richland), Riley Hagerty (Pendleton), Braden Pulver (Pendleton) and Drew McCullough (Richland) each carded a 73 to finish tied for second.

The Eagle Indians are back in action again for another tough tournament at Pendleton Country Club at 10 a.m. next Thursday.
