The Dalles To the editor:
I recently was northbound on U.S. Highway 197 heading to The Dalles when, at Eightmile Road, I observed a bicycle coming from the west side. This person continued through the intersection at full speed without stopping. There was traffic coming in both directions.
Later in the day, I confirmed with an Oregon State Police trooper that bicycles are required to follow the same rules of the road as any other vehicle. This person did not stop at a stop sign.
To those of you who ride bikes on the streets and roads of our area, please observe the rules of the road. Ride right and ride safe, before something happens that could prove fatal.
