THE DALLES — As the calendar switches over to the warmer weather, the local running events bring in the highest caliber of talent to the Greater Columbia River Gorge area.
Starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, children from the ages of 4-12-years old are welcomed to attend the Water’s Edge Kid’s Run and Fitness Festival located at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center.
This run is the start of the Gorge Half Marathon Triple Crown Series.
Three half marathon events, in three different seasons, at three different locations in the Columbia River Gorge.
Festivities kick off at noon with the opening of the Kid’s Fit Zone where athletes test their speed, strength, and flexibility with a number of activities.
The Water’s Edge Kids Run is a 1.1 mile course on paved pathways through the beautiful Discovery Center Campus.
Later in the afternoon, the adults will hit the pavement for the Water’s Edge Duathlon, Half Marathon, and 10K, offering a day of fun and fitness is an event for all ages and abilities.
The events kick off with a 5k Run/30k Bike/5k Run Duathlon that takes competitors through the Columbia River Gorge.
The run will be an out and back course on the beautiful River Front Trail.
Starting at the Discovery Center, runners will head East to Taylor Lakes.
Upon their return, runners will transition onto bikes and head West on the Gorge Highway to the legendary Rowena Lookout where they will turn around and return back to the Discovery Center.
The Half Marathon and 10k run will start after the duathlon start and take competitors out along the beautiful river trail along the Columbia River.
There is a walking category for both the half marathon and 10k, as well as Team relay categories for both duathlon and half marathon events.
