Letter to the editor: Charting a course

To the editor:

Governor Kitzhaber gave an inspired speech at the recent Oregon League of Conservation Voters dinner.

In the speech, the governor charted a course away from fossil fuels and toward a more sustainable future.

Governor Kitzhaber said, “First, it is time once and for all to say no to coal exports from the Pacific Northwest.

It is time to say yes to national and state energy policies that will transform our economy and our communities into a future that can sustain the next generation.”

In the Columbia Gorge we are fighting to stop multiple proposals to transport oil and coal. These proposals threaten our health, safety and the planet’s future.

I’m happy we have a Governor who gets it. It makes me proud to be an Oregonian. How about you?

Read the speech at Oregon.Gov/Gov, go to Newsroom pull down menu, click on Speeches and look for: “OLCV Keynote April 19, 2014.”
