Goldendale hosts 6th annual garden show

Goldendales’s sixth annual Home & Garden Show will be Friday, May 2 10am-7pm and Saturday, May 3 10am-6pm at the Klickitat County Fairgrounds. Admission to the show is free, parking is free, and you’ll find a wide variety of vendors for home and garden items, as well as a food court. The Home & Garden Show is sponsored by the Goldendale Chamber of Commerce.

This year’s featured guest is Graham Kerr, the famous Galloping Gourmet of TV cooking show fame. Now living in the Seattle area, he has become quite a gardener and fan of healthy, locally-grown food, with an emphasis on plant foods. He will be speaking on “Growing Groceries” at the show Saturday at 11am on the main stage. His new book Growing at the Speed of Life tells the story of his first vegetable garden, the help and advice he received from friends, and how he promotes healthy cooking by eating what is grown in his garden. There will a book signing Friday, May 2 at 5:30pm; people may bring or buy a book at the show.

Sherman County 4-H members from the cooking and gardening clubs will be attending the show…a tradition for the garden club and a new opportunity for the cooking group…and youth and parents alike are looking forward to the “Growing Groceries” talk by Graham Kerr. When contacted about having 4-H members attending, Kerr emailed OSU Sherman Extension “Now I have an even more wonderful reason for coming! I love passing on the baton of plant foods to this coming generation…what an honor…thanks!”
