The Columbia Gorge Discovery Center presents the May history dinner, “A Walk Through China Town,” with Marilyn Urness, Friday, May 2. Dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. and the presentation starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Discovery Center, 5000 Discovery Drive, in The Dalles.
Marilyn Urness takes us on a look at the Chinatown that existed between 1870 and 1890 on Main (First) Street in The Dalles and the discriminating ordinances aimed at the Chinese, the Chinese cemetery, gardens, opium smoking and those professions open to the Chinese, including the laundries. She reveals details behind the Chinese Laundry Wars and the Tong gangs. Ticket prices for the dinner and presentation are $18 for non-members, $15 for members. The presentation only is just $5.
