Access to the west was soon closed completely as mandatory evacuations were ordered.

A The Dalles Police car blocks access west on Chenowith Road as a door-to-door evacuation takes place for several communites to the west. Heavy clouds of smoke were clearly visible, and traffic entering and leaving the area was backed up.
