Fugitive couple arrested in Ore.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A fugitive Mississippi couple that’s been on the run for five years has been arrested in Oregon.

U.S. Marshal Gale Manning says Janet and Ramon Barreto were arrested Tuesday in Portland.

The couple is charged with manslaughter in death of their adopted 2-year-old daughter in 2008. They also are accused of abusing eight other children and running a puppy mill.

The Barretos were free on $450,000 bond when they disappeared in 2009.

The U.S. Marshals Service says it tracked them to Mexico but lost their trail. The pair was later seen in various locations in southern California.
