Letter to the editor: Lets talk roads

To the editor:

I’m Dennis James, a member of the Wasco County road advisory committee. I believe I’m the only person who volunteered to be a member. The other members were asked to participate. That doesn’t make them any more or less than me, it just shows me that people don’t want to be involved. I live and work with our county roads and I want to be involved with their operations.

What I’ve seen at recent hearings before the county court is most people are against one group of people paying the cost of road care and want to spread it out. I was the one dissenting vote against a road district paying the full budget and suggested several other methods of getting the job done. It’s a lot of work and it takes a lot more than just Dennis James to do it.

So I’m asking all those vocal people who were at those meetings, and anyone else who actually cares about our roads to meet with me at Dufur City Park for an unofficial meeting to discuss and find an agenda we can move ahead with.

I think a good time to meet would be Thursday, Aug. 28, at 5:30 p.m. near the pool. My phone number is 541-993-0761 if you have something you’d like to say before the meeting. I hope many of you are concerned enough to come. Thank you.

Dennis James
