Parker Lupkes is helping make Sorosis Park a better — and more informative — place.

The 16-year-old The Dalles High School junior is a life-long Boy Scout. He began working on his Eagle Scout project in April 2014 after a meeting with Scott Green of Northern Wasco County Parks and Recreation.

Green recommended Lupkes replace the disc golf/park map kiosk at Sorosis Park. Eagle Scout projects require Scouts to marshal people and resources to create a project that betters the community.

Lupkes solicited donations from Home Depot and Tum-A-Lum Lumber for the project. Rage Graphics donated Lupkes’ identification plaque that is affixed to the kiosk.

Bob Stocking of Scout Troop 352 provided guidance and Mr. Ewing at The Dalles High School arranged use of the high school wood shop. Troop 352 members also put hard work into the project.
