CAST to hold auditions for 'Blackbird'

CAST will hold auditions for “Blackbird” by David Harrower, directed by Judie Hanel on Feb. 22 and 23 at 2 p.m.

Call backs will be on Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. Show dates are May 8, 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17.

Una and Ray are birds with broken wings. We watch an uneasy encounter between a young woman and the middle-aged man whose actions altered her life 15 years ago.

They haven’t seen each other since Ray was sent to prison for statutory rape. Una has endured a lifetime of being “talked about, pointed at, stared at,” while Ray has done his time, changed his name, moved to a new city and rebuilt his life.

Una, female, 20s to 40s.

Ray, male, 40s to 60s.

Girl, female, 12, has a few lines at the end of the show. Anyone interested in this role will need to contact the director by email before the auditions to arrange a separate time to audition.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

This play demands commitment and emotional vulnerability from its actors.

Sides will be available at the gallery desk at Columbia Center for the Arts to check out. If you have questions, contact director Judie Hanel at
