Letter to the Editor: Fond memories

To the editor:

Moved to The Dalles in 1958-1960 to work at the new Harvey Aluminum factory. Lived in a boarding house on Chenowith owned by the Richardsons. Finley Richardson ran the local bus.

I remember The Handout, Johnney’s Cafe, The Recreation, The Shamrock Bar, The Roller Rink, The Drive-In Theater, Indians fishing off the rocks on the Columbia before the dam went in.

Took the ferry from Dallesport, Wash., to the Dalles, dated a girl from the Dairy Queen whose family has lived in the Dalles for many years, went to the Cherry Festival in an old school house.

It was a great experience for an 18-year-old from Los Angeles who visited my relatives’ ranch every summer from 1948 to 1958 in Appleton,Wa. north of Lyle, Wash. During summer school vacation. Thanks!
