Letter to the Editor: Walden, Lincoln share woes

— Two Republicans

To the editor:

“Four score and seven years ago…” so said America’s first and most famous Republican president, Abraham Lincoln.

Both President Lincoln and Congressman Greg Walden have experienced similar woes.

President Lincoln once said, “If I were to try to read, much less answer, all the ‘attacks’ made on me, this shop might as well be closed for any other business.”

Both men have prayed to, feared and received strength and wisdom from the one and only “true” God: “Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side; for God is always right.” — Abe Lincoln. (As embossed on our currency, “In God We Trust.”

But some seem to think it’s wrong to be right. “Be sure you put your feet in the right place; then stand firm.” — Abe Lincoln.

Hat’s off to Congressman Greg Walden, our lone Oregon voter who stood firm for fiscal responsibility.
