To the editor:
This letter is a giant thank you. The generosity of the people in The Dalles never fails to amaze me. Six people gave up part of their Christmas day to cook and serve patrons at Community Meals. They were Betsy, Jerry, Rita, Hilary, Linda, and Marvin.
We also made up 50 small tote bags to give out to each diner. A special thank you to Sue who helped fill all the bags, which contained an apple, zip-top bag of fresh cookies, pair of socks, gloves, washcloth, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, bottle of water, plastic rain poncho, large candy bar, and a $5 gift card to a local fast food restaurant.
The Fellowship of Churches donated items and money to this project, and the Moose Lodge donated the candy bars. Two people donated $100 each, and one purchased $100 worth of the fast food gift cards. This is the second year we have done this, and it has turned out to be such a worthwhile project.
So thank you to all the people who brought the items that were needed.
We plan to do this again next year.
