Missing hiker, 71, found near Oregon’s Mount Hood

GOVERNMENT CAMP (AP) — The Clackamas County sheriff’s office says a 71-year-old hiker missing overnight near Oregon’s Mount Hood has been found in good condition.

The sheriff’s office tweeted late Monday night that rescue crews reported that Gary Tuor of Sandy was “medically fine” and walking out under his own power.

KGW-TV reports that Tuor was sitting at a campfire with his dog when searchers found him. He told rescuers when he realized he was lost, he lit the fire and stayed there with his black lab, hoping to be found.

Sheriff’s Lt. Robert Wurpes says the man’s wife reported he had been hiking with his dog and a younger hiking partner near Zigzag Mountain west of Mount Hood. Tuor’s wife, Sandra Cleveland, drove to the trailhead Monday after her husband failed to return Sunday night.

The hiking companion found his way back to Tuor’s car but said the two men had gotten separated late Sunday.
