Through three quarters, South Wasco County built a big lead over Nixyaawii, but after playing a gritty four quarters 24 hours earlier at home against Sherman, the legs tired out, as Nixyaawii worked a 37-23 run in the final eight minutes and overtime in a 79-75 victory Saturday in Big Sky conference play in Mission.
Many of the same issues that plagued the Redsides in their Sherman game came back to roost against the Golden Eagles.
Nixyaawii shot 17 for 27 in the second half, while the Redsides hit on 2 of 7 from the charity stripe, 6 of for the game.
SWC also committed 20 turnovers and Nixyaawii gave the ball away just nine times.
David Ocacio led the Redsides with 28 points, Travis Hayes added 21 and Loreto Morelli checked in with 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals.
In all, SWC shot 29 of 69, 12 for 33 from 3-point range.
With the loss, the Redsides are 6-5 and ranked 16th in the state.
They travel to No. 7-ranked Ione (8-2 overall, 2-0 league) for a 7:30 p.m. game on Friday.
“We are looking at getting better every game,” said SWC head coach Jim Hull. “Nix is a tough place to play.”
