Facing the toughest part of its schedule, the South Wasco County girl’s basketball team is in the midst of a 2-9 stretch over the past month, last losing 69-40 Saturday in Big Sky Conference basketball play in Maupin.
The No. 2-ranked and undefeated Lady Knights wasted little time setting a positive trend to matters using the opening 16 minutes to stage runs of 17-6 and 19-7 to go out in front by a 36-13 score at the break.
The Knights and Redsides combined for 33 points in the third quarter, as Condon worked a 17-16 split to lead by 24 points entering the final quarter.
“I thought the girls competed well against a very good team,” said SWC head coach Ron Townsend. “We worked hard, but were just up against a better team tonight.”
In all, the Redsides had 10 players hit the scoresheet, led by junior forward Molly Foreaker, who paced the offense with 10 points.
Ally Muhleman added nine points, Zoe Morelli was good for four points, and the trio of Kyra Shannon, Sonya Schmitz and Joy Kelly rapped out three points apiece.
South Wasco County (5-9 overall, 1-3 league) hosts Arlington (2-12, 1-3) at 6 p.m. Friday.
