Extension service offers camp counselor training

Free training for camp counselors is being offered to youths in grades seven to 12.

Outdoor schools, sports camps, bible schools and 4-H camp all need camp counselors.

Through the training, young people will:

• learn how to create a positive, safe and welcoming camp,

• better understand children’s emotional, cognitive, social and physical development,

• have a better understanding of themselves and the strengths they bring to the camp,

• know their role in keeping camp orderly and safe.

Classes begin Monday, Jan. 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Columbia Gorge Community College Building 2 lecture hall. Another session will take place Sunday, Feb. 9, from 2 to 5 p.m. at The Commodore, 312 Court St.
